Pumpkins laid out beside a field for visitors to choose

Looking for pumpkin picking in Wales in 2026? Patches are opening across the country throughout October, from Anglesey and Flintshire to the Vale of Glamorgan and Monmouthshire. Some are simple pay-for-what-you-pick fields; others add trails, maize mazes, twilight sessions or farm attractions.

This guide compares the most useful current options by location, dates and booking rules. Farm opening can change with weather and crop availability, so use the direct link beside each entry before setting off.

Quick answer: Forage Farm and Lower House Farm list October-long seasons, Cantref publishes selected weekends plus half term, and Hooton's says pumpkins are normally available during October without advance booking. Bellis Brothers has confirmed a 2026 season but will publish its detailed timetable nearer the time.

Pumpkin picking in Wales

Forage Farm, Cowbridge

Forage Farm's pick-your-own season runs from 3 to 31 October 2026. The programme includes daytime sessions and selected twilight visits, making it one of the clearest options for people travelling from Cardiff, Bridgend or the Vale. Its live page lists tickets from £12 per car for some off-peak sessions, but prices and opening times vary by date. Check the exact session before booking.

Cantref Adventure Farm, near Brecon

Cantref combines pumpkin picking with a wider farm day. Its published 2026 dates are 3 to 4, 10 to 11 and 17 to 18 October, followed by daily opening from 24 October to 1 November. A child's festival ticket includes a pumpkin, while the programme also advertises seasonal shows and farm activities. This is the fuller day-out choice rather than a quick field visit.

Lower House Farm, Monmouthshire

Lower House Farm at Llanvair Discoed lists pumpkin picking from 3 to 31 October. It suits visitors in south-east Wales who want a farm-led autumn trip without crossing Cardiff. The farm advises visitors to use its current event page for sessions, so confirm the selected date and price before leaving home.

Mid and north Wales pumpkin picking

Porth Farm, Caersws

Porth Farm says more than 15,000 pumpkins across five varieties, plus a giant type, are being grown for late October. Its published model is simple: pay a small admission charge and then pay for the pumpkins you choose. Because readiness depends on the crop, use the farm's event page to confirm that picking has opened before making a special journey.

Moel Famau Pumpkins, Cilcain

This Flintshire patch says its 2026 crop is growing for selected October weekends. The farm normally opens between 10am and 5pm on advertised Saturdays and Sundays, but its calendar is the authoritative source for exact dates. It is a useful option for Mold, Denbighshire and north-east Wales.

Bellis Brothers, Holt

Bellis Brothers has confirmed that its pumpkin field and spooky maize maze will return in 2026. Detailed opening hours and ticket information were still due when this guide was checked. The farm is less than nine miles from both Wrexham and Chester, so it can become busy once bookings open.

Hooton's Homegrown, Anglesey

Hooton's lists October as its usual pumpkin season at Ffingar Farm near Llanfairpwllgwyngyll. There is normally no entry fee or advance booking: visitors pay for what they pick. Conditions can affect accessibility in the field, so wheelchair and pushchair users should call ahead after wet weather.

How to choose the right patch

  • For a quick visit: choose a straightforward pay-for-what-you-pick field such as Hooton's or Porth Farm.
  • For a full family day: Cantref adds farm attractions, while Bellis Brothers advertises a maize maze.
  • For an evening atmosphere: compare the twilight sessions at Forage Farm and Vale Pick Your Own.
  • For accessibility: ask the venue directly. A dry grass field can become difficult after heavy rain.

What to take pumpkin picking

Wear boots or old shoes even if the morning is dry. Bring waterproof layers, gloves for cold stems and a strong bag or box for the car. Some farms provide wheelbarrows, but that does not guarantee one will be free at the busiest time.

Pick a pumpkin that feels firm and sounds solid when tapped. Avoid soft patches, deep cuts and damaged stems. Lift it from underneath rather than carrying it by the stalk. If you plan to cook it, ask which varieties are best for eating: a large carving pumpkin can be watery compared with smaller culinary varieties.

Check before you travel

Pumpkin picking is unusually dependent on weather, soil and how quickly a field is picked. A farm can change opening hours, sell out of a size or close a muddy area at short notice. Check the farm's own page or social update on the morning of your visit, and do not rely on an old directory listing.
