How to Write a Letter to Santa in Welsh

Writing to Siôn Corn-Santa Claus-is a fun way for children to practise Welsh with a clear purpose.
Use the six steps below, then copy the complete example and replace the name, age and presents.
1. Greet Siôn Corn
Dear Santa Claus,
Hello Santa Claus!
Add Sut wyt ti?-How are you?-for a friendly opening.
2. Introduce yourself
My name is [name].
I am [age] years old.
Example: Fy enw i yw Megan. Dw i’n saith oed.
3. Tell Santa about your year
I have been a good child this year.
I help at home.
I always try my best.
A specific example makes the letter more personal: helping with the dishes, being kind to a sibling or working hard at school.
4. Ask for gifts politely
I would like [a gift], please.
I would like to receive...
Examples:
- Hoffwn i gael beic newydd, os gwelwch yn dda.-I would like a new bike, please.
- Hoffwn i gael llyfr stori.-I would like a storybook.
- Hoffwn i gael teganau anifeiliaid fferm.-I would like farm-animal toys.
5. Mention the Christmas Eve treats
I have left food for you and the reindeer.
I hope you enjoy the biscuits and milk.
6. Say thank you and goodbye
Thank you very much, Santa!
I am looking forward to Christmas.
Bye for now!
Merry Christmas!

Annwyl Siôn Corn,
Sut wyt ti? Fy enw i yw Tomos ac dw i’n wyth oed. Dw i wedi bod yn blentyn da eleni. Dw i’n helpu gyda’r llestri ac yn cadw fy ystafell yn daclus.
Hoffwn i gael set Lego a llyfr stori, os gwelwch yn dda.
Dw i wedi gadael bisgedi a llaeth i ti, a moron i’r ceirw.

8. Decorate and send the letter
Add drawings, stickers or a picture of Y Ddraig Goch in a Santa hat.
Postal services, addresses and reply deadlines can change each year. Check the current official Santa-letter guidance before placing a postal address on the envelope.
Before the letter goes in the envelope
- Open with Annwyl Siôn Corn.
- Include one polite request rather than only a list.
- Add a thank-you and the writer’s name.
- Ask a fluent speaker to check any new sentence added to the model.
