Newtown Food Festival returns on Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 September 2026, bringing food producers, street food, live music and family activities to the Town Hall Grounds and High Street. Entry is free, so it works equally well for a quick lunch stop or a full afternoon in Mid Wales.

This guide explains the layout, likely opening hours, travel and the easiest way to enjoy the festival without spending the day queueing.

What is on at Newtown Food Festival 2026?

The official site describes a weekend of local and international food, drink, music and family entertainment. Producers sell items to take home, while the Food To Go Lawn is the place for something ready to eat. The Festival Kitchen hosts cookery activity, and the Main Stage supplies the weekend soundtrack.

The festival's free app carries the live map, schedule and exhibitor list. Use that rather than relying on an old social post, because individual traders and performance times may change before September.

Food festivals are easiest when you decide what matters before arriving. Some visitors come to discover Powys producers, others want a relaxed family lunch, and some mainly want the music. Pick one priority and let everything else be a bonus. Carrying a reusable bag and a small cool bag also makes take-home purchases easier, especially if you are travelling beyond Newtown afterwards.

Comfortable shoes are useful because the event extends beyond one lawn.

How the Newtown festival site works

The event is centred on the green spaces around the Town Hall Grounds, close to the town centre. Its named zones include a Producers Lawn and marquee, Food To Go Lawn, Festival Kitchen, Main Stage, bar and Children's Village. Visit Wales says the 2026 event will also extend onto High Street.

That makes the festival easier to navigate than one continuous line of stalls. Start with a lap before buying lunch, note two or three producers you want to revisit, then use the official map to find demonstrations or music.

Is Newtown Food Festival good for families?

Free admission removes the pressure to stay all day. The dedicated Children's Village is the clearest family feature, while open green space and short distances between zones make it possible to alternate food stops with entertainment.

Arrive earlier if a quieter first lap matters to you. Bring weather layers, agree a meeting point with older children and check the live schedule for activities. Under-18 access to the bar area and individual traders' allergen arrangements may vary, so ask on site rather than assuming.

A simple first-visit food plan

  1. Walk first. Make one circuit before choosing your main meal.
  2. Share portions. Two or three smaller dishes let you try more producers.
  3. Bookend the busy period. Eat a little before the main lunch rush, then return for something sweet later.
  4. Take something home. Leave time for the producers' areas after eating.

Newtown is Y Drenewydd in Welsh. The festival is a useful introduction to the town as well as to Mid Wales food businesses.

Getting to Newtown Food Festival

The site is in central Newtown, close to shops and the River Severn. Visit Wales lists pay-and-display parking next to the festival area. Newtown railway station is within the town, but check Transport for Wales journey information and engineering notices before travelling.

Drivers should follow temporary signs and the organiser's current parking guidance rather than expecting a space beside the stalls. If you need step-free routes, toilets or other adjustments, check directly with the organiser before the weekend because the event spreads across outdoor areas and town-centre streets.

Check before you travel

The festival is scheduled for 5-6 September 2026 and advertises free entry. Opening times, individual exhibitors, music, demonstrations and road arrangements can still change. Recheck the official Newtown Food Festival website and app shortly before setting out.
