Welsh for a Coffee Morning: 12 Host and Guest Phrases

In Welsh, coffee is coffi, and a Coffee Morning is Bore Coffi. Macmillan Cancer Support's official Coffee Morning date in 2026 is Friday 25 September, but its guidance says people can hold an event before or after that date. These phrases therefore work for an afternoon gathering, an after-school event, a workplace break or a later fundraiser too.

Macmillan's Welsh materials call the event Bore Coffi. On its donation poster, the same name appears as Fore Coffi after the preposition at. That change is a soft mutation, not a different event.

What the mutations are doing

Three short changes make the full phrases more useful than a list of dictionary words:

• Bore Coffi becomes Fore Coffi after at. The initial b softens to f.
• In Ga i ddarn o gacen?, darn becomes ddarn after the request form, and cacen becomes gacen after o.
• Ga i...? and Gaf i...? reflect regional course forms. Choose the one taught in your course, but recognise both.

You do not need to name each rule while speaking. Say the whole phrase two or three times, then swap only the cake or drink when the pattern is secure.

Why 25 September matters in 2026

Macmillan says the first Coffee Morning took place in 1990 and the fundraiser went national in 1991. Its official date for 2026 is Friday 25 September. The annual format gives this topic a strong late-September rhythm, but the organisation explicitly says hosts can choose another date.

That flexibility matters for a 14:00 article. It would be misleading to write as if everybody's morning event were still ahead. Instead, use the phrases at an afternoon or evening gathering, save them for an event held on another day, or use the thank-you line after people have gone home.
