Three Saturdays in November will bring Japan, New Zealand and Australia to Cardiff. The matches form part of rugby's new Nations Championship, a competition whose unfamiliar structure will matter as much as the familiar red shirts.

Wales begins its home programme at Principality Stadium on 7 November 2026. This guide separates the confirmed dates from details still to come and gives you enough Cymraeg to follow the central moments of a match.

What is the Nations Championship?

The Nations Championship is a new international rugby union competition bringing leading northern and southern hemisphere teams into a connected schedule. The 2026 edition is the first, so supporters should expect the format and its language to be less familiar than the Six Nations.

Wales's November home matches feed into a finals weekend at the end of the month. The result of that wider structure is that each fixture contributes to more than a stand-alone autumn series.

In Welsh, a match is gêm and a team is tîm. The WRU fixture page is the right place for later confirmation of kick-off times, ticket conditions and any schedule change.

7 November: Wales v Japan

Japan offers the first test of the new campaign. Their best performances combine speed, precise handling and a willingness to keep the ball moving. Wales will need discipline as well as control of territory.

For a first-time spectator, use this match to learn the rhythm of the stadium: when gates become busy, where your block entrance sits and how long the walk from the city centre takes.

14 November: Wales v New Zealand

The visit of New Zealand carries a long and difficult history for Wales. Reputation can intensify the build-up, but the current teams, selections and form matter more than an old result once the whistle goes.

Listen for how the crowd changes after a defensive stand, a break or a turnover. Anticipation often rises before the scoreboard moves.

21 November: Wales v Australia

Australia completes the three-match home sequence. By this point, the competition table and route into finals weekend should be clearer. That context may affect tactical choices and the emotional weight of the final minutes.

Avoid assuming that a familiar opponent guarantees a familiar match. Coaching plans, injuries and form can shift quickly across a November campaign.

Welsh rugby words to recognise

  • rygbi - rugby
  • cais - try
  • cic gosb - penalty kick
  • hanner amser - half-time
  • buddugoliaeth - victory
  • Dewch ymlaen, Cymru! - Come on, Wales!

Learn the words in game order. A cais may lead to a conversion attempt, hanner amser divides the match, and buddugoliaeth is known only at the end.

A low-stress Cardiff match-day plan

  1. Check the official kick-off time and ticket entry information.
  2. Choose public transport where possible and allow for city-centre crowd controls.
  3. Save or print the ticket before joining the approach to the stadium.
  4. Agree a meeting point outside the busiest immediate entrances.
  5. After the match, expect stations and streets to release crowds in waves.

Good planning protects the part of the day you came to enjoy.

Watching from home in Welsh

S4C has announced Welsh-language coverage of Wales matches in the competition, while the WRU announcement also identifies ITV coverage. Platform listings and programme start times can differ from kick-off, so use the broadcaster's current guide on match week.

Write down one word you hear repeatedly. By the third Saturday, the same call may arrive before you need the English equivalent. That is how live rygbi becomes a language lesson without stopping the match.
