Eisteddfod y Garreg Las 2026: Stalls Not to Miss

Some people head straight for the Pavilion. Others go to the Eisteddfod for the stalls.

At Eisteddfod y Garreg Las, held at Llantwd in north Pembrokeshire from 1 to 8 August 2026, you can browse Welsh books, clothes, gifts and crafts, practise your Welsh, find children's activities and eat your way around the Maes.

This guide is based on 2026 information published by organisers and stallholders as of 21 July 2026. Exact stall locations, activities and giveaway supplies can change, so check the official map or app when you arrive.

1. Welsh books, language and learning

Dysgu Cymraeg and Maes D

If you are learning Welsh, Maes D should be your first stop. It is the Eisteddfod's village for learners and new Welsh speakers, with friendly conversations, activities and plenty of chances to use your Cymraeg without feeling tested.

Do not worry about making mistakes. A simple Shwmae, Ga i...? or Diolch is enough to start a conversation.

Cant a mil and the National Library

Put Cant a mil on your stall-map wish list. This independent Cardiff bookshop is brilliant for Welsh books, including titles for learners and confident readers. A bookseller can often find something better for you than the title you originally had in mind, so ask for a recommendation.

The National Library of Wales stand is also worth finding. Its 2026 programme includes Ol, a Welsh virtual-reality experience shown throughout the week.

2. Clothes, gifts and crafts

The smaller stalls are often where you find the best keepsakes. Look beyond the biggest marquees and browse the wooden huts slowly.

• ani-bendod: Welsh clothing, gifts and stationery, with its website confirming the Garreg Las dates.
• Rhyd: original creative products and Welsh-made gifts, with Eisteddfod y Garreg Las listed as its next event.
• The WI in Wales: daily demonstrations, a St David's Day quilt and handmade items including knitted scarves.

3. Food and drink

Save time for Pentref Bwyd, the Food Village. The official 2026 catering plans include mobile food stalls, the Platiad restaurant, ice cream and other offers across the Maes. Current visitor information also points to a broad mix that includes vegan food, burgers and pizza, alongside Welsh beer, cider and gin.

Our advice is simple: walk the full row once before choosing. It is very easy to buy the first thing you see and then discover something even better two stalls later. See the official 2026 catering and stall categories and the Pembrokeshire visitor guide before you go.

Bring a refillable bottle, eat before you are starving and leave room for a Welsh cake.

4. Family and environmental stalls

There is plenty to do without buying anything.

• Welsh Language Commissioner: explore Welsh place names, children's story activities and events across the week.
• Cwm Arian Renewable Energy: visit its stand throughout the week for practical conversations about community energy and the environment.
• Pentre Plant: a family area with activities such as den building, tug of war and street theatre listed in the current local visitor guide.

These stands are especially useful when children need a break from walking or when you want a quieter conversation away from the shopping lanes.

5. The Eisteddfod freebie challenge

Now for an important part of any day on the Maes: get as many good freebies as you can. Pens, pencils, stickers, badges, tote bags, lanyards and activity sheets all count.

Who remembers the Eisteddfod gonks? Those fuzzy little characters became icons of the Maes. And what about the metal, plastic or rubber slap bracelets that snapped around your arm? If you came home with one of those, it felt like a successful Eisteddfod.

Freebies change from year to year, but you can improve your chances:

1. Take a tote bag and start early, before popular items run out.
2. Talk to the people on the stand. The best freebies often come with a useful story or activity.
3. Check the small stalls and Third Sector Hub, not only the biggest organisations.
4. Ask politely and take one, leaving some for the next person.
